PRINTERS:

Do Eidos printers permit real-time printing of the time, date and progressive number?
If you need to print the date and time on the packaging, you can do this in real time. You can also print the "best before" date.
If you have one or more production lines, you can print one or more progressive numbers. back to top

Is it possible to print a barcode and a logo?
If necessary, you can print your logo (in .BMP format). Also, you can insert one or more straight or rotated barcodes in the same label.

Is it possible to print (and apply) on moving objects?
If you have a continuous production line, you can code your products or packaging with an Eidos printer dedicated to your specific requirements.

What are the advantages of the thermal transfer method?
The thermal transfer method is environment-friendly and does not require the use of liquid inks. Routine maintenance operations such as changing the ribbon are easier for the operator with no risk of stains.
Its high printing quality means it is also suitable for printing barcodes. Over the years, it continues to gain ground in fast printing.

If I buy an Eidos printer, do I have to buy a dedicated computer?
No. You can save the labels on a floppy disk and transfer them to the printer.

What are the advantages of using a Corner Edge head?
The Corner Edge head guarantees high quality printing because it is of the 12-dot type (300 Dpi).

What spares should I keep on hand?
If your production requires continuous operation of the printer, you should always keep the following spares on hand:
- A thermal head
- A CPU card
- An interface card
- A power supply unit

Can an Eidos printer operate without compressed air?
Compressed air is essential for printer operation.

Can the PRINTESS print and apply two identical labels on two sides of the same box at the same time?
To cater to many of our customers' need to print on both sides without consuming too much self-adhesive paper, Eidos has designed a printer able to print two identical labels on two sides of the same box.

Can I request a non-standard pad for PRINTESS?
Yes, of course. For pads with non-standard measurements there is an additional (comprehensive) charge to cover design costs.

What accessories are available for Printess?
These devices are currently available:
Connection devices to SYNC24 I/O: photocells, junction box, 3-lamp column, pedal, etc
Warning: the 3-lamp column no longer has flashing lights but fixed, on or off lights.
RS232 connections: serial cable, USB-RS232 converters, etc.
RS422 connections with PLC: optocoupled converter.
Wireless connections: access point devices, USB-Wi-Fi converters, etc.
Ethernet connections : USB-Ethernet converters, etc.
Page selection function by binary 4-digit 24V selection (0.LM1,...,15.LM1).
Page callup function by reading barcode with light pen or flash reader.
Devices for air treatment: pressure adjusters, filters, etc.
IP65 protection for electronic unit.

Software

How are Eidos printers controlled via an external computer (on a serial link)?
Eidos offers the EASYCODE SW program (complete version) able to send and sort the labels directly via a serial link with an external computer.

Can I use label generation programs other than Easycode?
If you use different software from the EASYCODE program, you can use this to generate the labels. Our printers are compatible with the most-widely used software packages.

What is the availability of the internal FLASH memory (disc C: ) on printers with touchscreens?
The available nominal flash memory is approximately 2-2.5 MB. In fact, the printer's operating system compresses the files during saving to reduce their size.
Warning: the file compression coefficient depends on their contents.
Example: - a 10kb .LM1 file that contains almost only graphics (already in the format compressed by EASYCODE) is compressed much less than an .LM1 file of the same dimensions that nevertheless contains only ASCII characters (e.g. non-compressed texts, barcodes, boxes, etc).
For safety, the actual memory available on disc C must be considered to be the physical memory, i.e. 2 - 2.5MB.

How many files can be saved onto the USB key?
The operating system of the printer enables up to 512 files to be managed. Some EIDOS customers have been able to manage up to 480 files without problems.
Nevertheless, we recommend using printer programme versions that are above or the same as 3.00.
Managing the names of the files: the operating system adopted on the printer is case-sensitive, so it distinguishes between two files having the same name but which are written in upper or lower case.
Example: "FOO.LM1" is different from "foo.lm1" From programme versions 3.00 and above this problem has been overcome inasmuch as the printer programme runs a search both for lower-case and upper-case names. Managing files in subdirectories: printers with touchscreens manage only files that are resident in the "root" in the USB memory (disc A) and the FLASH memory (disc C). Files resident in the subdirectories of the disc are not managed.

What type of files can be printed with the EIDOS printers?
With the windows driver SATO CL612 the following types of files can be printed:
- .xls generated by EXCEL
- .doc generated by MSWORD
- .pdf generated by Acrobat
- .Jpeg generated by COREL Draw, Photo Paint, Paint Brush etc.
If a programme can manage a Windows driver the files created by it can most likely be printed by an EIDOS printer.

Can the printer manage any USB-Ethernet, USB-Wifi, or USB-RS232 converter?
No. Only devices are managed which the driver inside the printer is able to recognize. That is why only devices tested by EIDOS should be used.

Are the three USB-HOST ports on the rear panel of the electronic unit independent of one another?
Yes. They can be used independently.
Examples:
- the laser for reading the barcodes can be connected to any of the three ports via a USB-RS232 converter.
-the USB-Ethernet or USB-Wifi converter can be connected indifferently to any one of the 3 ports.
- the USB memory can be inserted indifferently into the front connector and one of the three rear connectors.
Warning:
- When inserting or moving the device from one connector to the other, switch off and on again.
- You do not need to switch off and on again when inserting a USB memory as the printer performs self-recognition.

Can I use all the USB-HOST ports simultaneously?
In theory yes. However, so far we have these connection examples:
- Smart Card reader device on one port and the USB-WIFI converter on the other.
- Optic laser on one port and the USB-Ethernet converter on the other.

The printers with touchscreens no longer have a "Serial User" port. Where do I connect the light pen or the laser to check the printed barcode?
These devices have to be connected to one of the USB-HOST ports via the USB-RS232 converter. Also the serial optic pen has to be connected via the USB-RS232 converter.
